Back from the Beach: Here's What I Learned
And I'm ready for two soul care events this Saturday! Join me?
Did I tell you I accidentally went on vacation by myself?
This solo vacation wasn’t the plan, but it was so needed.
When my spouse had a work trip booked during our scheduled time off, I almost canceled my time at @bluecoastretreat 🏝️ Our son couldn’t make it either.
And then it hit me. Go solo.
I’m so glad I did.
No to-do list. Super simple meals.
Just time playing, resting, sleeping, reflecting, reading, coloring, riding my bike, and watching the waves.
It wasn’t magazine-perfect. It rained a good bit. I had a migraine for a day. I ate boring foods most of the time (and fresh fish the rest of the time).
And yet. It was a nice break for my brain. And honestly, I didn’t realize how much I needed it. I have been struggling with vestibular migraines for six months now (that’s another post). My body loves the beach. It was the soul medicine I needed.
I know solo time away isn’t always easy or accessible. But if there’s any way to carve out even a few hours or a day just for you, do it. It doesn’t have to be a week or a whole weekend. It doesn’t have to be the beach, but if you DO want to check out #coastalmississippi, I know a little place you will love!
Even a short pause in a peaceful place can help you reconnect with yourself and find rest in a way that heals. Just turn off the TV, stop scrolling (or whatever your thing is), and listen to nature. Talk to God.
Rest is holy.
You’re worth the break.
Have you ever solo vacationed?
This trip was such a treat and I’m so grateful to have taken that kind of a purposefull pause after the book release. If you’ve ever considered visiting Coastal Mississippi, I’d love to share our new little Blue Coast Retreat with you! Follow #BlueCoastRetreat on IG and I can send you a referral discount for booking your own stay if you’d like to visit our quiet little coast.
And, for my local friends - this Saturday is going to be a good one! The weather should be hot in Tennessee but we’ll be cool in Chair Yoga (Old Hickory) and at my Harper’s Book Signing (Lebanon). Let’s make space for soul care this summer.
For my online friends - next Friday, June 27th from 12 - 1 PM Central, I’m hosting a lunchtime meditation and celebration using my new book, in our Peace Seekers online community space (via Zoom). These are the people that make the podcast possible. So, thank you! Consider joining us?
There’s a NEW Body Scan Meditation for you today at the podcast. Pause. Breathe. Give it a listen.
How else will you make space to care for your soul this summer? Let me know below and let’s encourage one another on this journey with God.
Peace,
Whitney
